How it works

Three steps, one answer

No sign-up maze, no tutor booking, no waiting for the next class.

Ask

Type your question, pick your grade and subject, and attach a photo of the problem, a PDF, or a short video if that explains it better.

Get answers from students in your grade

Your question goes out to students who are studying the same CAPS content. They reply in threads, so you can ask follow-ups until it clicks.

Vote and learn

The community upvotes what actually helps, and you can mark a best answer. The clearest explanations rise to the top for everyone after you.

Features

Built around how you actually study

Everything in RaisedHand exists to get you from “I don’t get this” to “oh, that’s it” faster.

Ask by grade and subject

Post a question tagged to your grade (8–12) and subject, with photo, PDF or video attachments so nobody has to guess what the question says.

Threaded answers

Answer other students’ questions and reply inside the thread, so a back-and-forth stays readable instead of turning into a wall of comments.

Voting and best answers

Upvote and downvote so the most helpful explanations surface, and the person who asked can mark one answer as the best.

Browse the whole CAPS spread

Maths, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Accounting, History, Geography, English, Afrikaans, Business Studies, Tourism, EGD, Consumer Studies, CAT/IT and more.

A “For You” feed

A personalised feed built from the students you follow and the subjects you care about, instead of everything from everyone.

Communities and chat

Join subject communities and message other registered students directly when a thread needs a longer conversation.

Points, badges and streaks

Earn reputation points and badges for helping others, keep a login streak, and climb the leaderboard. Points are for recognition only — they have no monetary value and cannot be redeemed or transferred.

Bookmarks, trending and notifications

Save threads you want to come back to, see what the community is working on right now, and get a push notification the moment your question is answered. Full dark mode included.

Subjects

Your subjects are already here

Questions are organised by grade and subject so you can browse straight to the topic you’re stuck on.

What you should know

Phone numbers stay private

A phone number is used only to sign in with a one-time PIN. It is never shown to other users and is never used to advertise to anyone.

Ads are restricted

RaisedHand is free and supported by ads through Google AdMob. Because the audience includes minors, every ad request is tagged as non-personalised and child-directed, and no ads are shown before a user signs in.

Rules, reporting and blocking

Every post is covered by our Community Guidelines. Any user can report a post or a person, and block someone so they cannot contact them again.

It supports school — it doesn’t replace it

Answers come from other students, not verified experts. RaisedHand is a study aid, not a substitute for formal schooling, tutoring or a teacher.

Consent for under‑18s

Users must be at least 13. Anyone aged 13–17 needs permission from a parent or guardian before using RaisedHand.

Data you can get back or remove

Under POPIA you can ask for access, correction or deletion of personal information at any time. See the Privacy Policy and deletion page.

FAQ

Questions about the app

Is RaisedHand free?

Yes. RaisedHand is free to download and free to use. It is supported by ads served through Google AdMob. There is no subscription and no paywall on asking or answering questions.

Who answers my questions?

Other students. RaisedHand is peer-to-peer, so answers come from people working through the same CAPS curriculum as you. Answers are not written or checked by teachers, and they are not verified for accuracy — voting and best-answer marking are how the community sorts out what actually helps. Always check important work against your textbook or teacher.

Is my phone number visible to other students?

No. Your phone number is used only to send the one-time PIN that signs you in. It is never displayed to other users, never attached to your posts, and never shared with advertisers. Other students see your display name, avatar and grade.

Which grades and subjects are covered?

Grades 8 to 12, following the South African CAPS curriculum. Subjects include Mathematics, Mathematical Literacy, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Accounting, History, Geography, English, Afrikaans, Business Studies, Economics, Tourism, EGD, Consumer Studies, CAT/IT and Life Orientation, among others.

Do points or badges have any cash value?

No. Reputation points, badges, streaks and leaderboard positions are recognition inside the app only. They have no monetary value and cannot be bought, redeemed, transferred or exchanged for anything.

How do I delete my account?

In the app, go to Profile → Settings → Delete Account. If you can’t sign in, email kagiso.thobane.73@gmail.com or use the form on our Account & Data Deletion page. We complete deletion requests within 30 days.

How do I report a post or a user?

Tap the menu on any question, answer or profile and choose Report. You can also block a user so they can no longer message you or interact with your posts. See Support for the full steps and our Community Guidelines for what we act on.
